More details to this question:
My uncle by marriage passed away in April with no will or executor. No one but me claimed him at the mortuary and the state of Ca took almost 1 1/2months searching for next of kin. My family were his only family per say. Noone stepped forward. I had him cremated and spread his ashes as that was his final wishes. Since then have emptied his apt, returned his phone and tried closing all accts to close out his life. What can I do about checks that come to my house from creditors that are in his name.? I have official death certificates and his I.d.

The debts are the debts of your uncle's estate.  They are not your debts.  The creditors can try to probate his estate if they think it can reimburse them.
