QUESTION

What do I need to do as a beneficiary in a will?

Asked on Jul 26th, 2020 on Wills and Probate - Virginia
More details to this question:
I have been informed by the executor of my grandmothers estate, that I am a beneficiary in her will. I've not seen the will, and have only had a phone call informing of this. My uncle is the executor and he offered me a low cash offer to basically get me out of the picture. I told him I could not accept that but I've not received any official notification of anything and I do not know if the will has been filed with the county. I've not seen the will myself. My grandmother passed away at the end of March, I was not informed until early July that I am a beneficiary. What are my next steps in protecting my interest?

If the Will has been presented for probate (proving), it is now a public document.  Check with the local probate or surrogate's court clerk.  In some counties, Wills are online.

This is general information. It cannot substitute for a personal consultation with an attorney. It is not intended to be legal advice or imply an attorney-client relationship.
