What does probate a will mean ?

More details to this question:
My mother passed on 1/8/19 and i went to the probate court to see if i coukd read the trust. They couldn't Find one as I had no idea what the name of the trust was. I have only one brother and my mother's husband my stepfather is still alive however he is presently in the hospital. My situation is my mother told me in times of anger that my brother was getting the house and I wasn't getting anything I don't know if this is true the only way for me to know is to see her will or a trust. I went to the probate court as I said and it wasn't helpful all they told me was I Would not be able to do anything until 30 days after her well had been probated. I don't understand the law I don't understand what that means I don't even understand my rights could you please help me? Will I be notified if I'm not in the trust? This is the state of Massachusetts by the way

Trusts are not public documents.   When a Will is submitted for probate (proof that it is genuine, assets collected, debts paid and the rest distributed to the people named in the Will), it becomes a public document.  You may not be able to act immediately.  But you should be able to see the Will.  Some counties even have them online.
