A few months ago I was notified of a life insurance policy (valued @ $3800) held by my aunt with the company in charge of it. I wasn't aware of it prior to notification. My aunt had senile dementia for many years after having a stroke when my mother (her sister) died. She had no husband, children, or any closer living relatives besides me. She was a TX resident & lived in a nursing home she died in 2015. I had a POA over everything concerning her. She died with no property & no will so no probate was necessary. Upon notification of the policy, I contacted the Probate Court in the county where she died but found no help. I found the docs needed on their website & have filled them out (small estate affidavit & court fee waiver request). Of note, I also recently moved from TX to OR late last year, am unemployed, & am receiving no UI/PUA funding. Here's their site. https://www.wilco.org/Elected-Officials/County-Courts/Court-at-Law-Four/Probate. Thanks so much for your help.
The POA expired with your aunt.
