my mother in law died monday and she had 5 daughters and 1 son. she lived with one of the daughters and she had power of attorney but that ended when their mother died. can this one daughter be the only one that has a say on whether to cremate or bury their mother without the other siblings' input. this daughter is not the eldest. is the part of the probate law or something else?
Few funeral directors will take action unless the entire family agrees. Please remember that the estate must pay to store the remains until an agreement is reached. Your mother-in-law could have completed an Appointment for Disposition of Remains stating what she wanted done and who she wanted to do it but, from your post, it sounds as though she did not.
