My ex mother in law just passed away. My wife died in 2oo7. When she died My mother-in-law wrote me a letter say that her daughter would get 50% and my 2 daughters would get 25% each. She told me to keep the letter in a safe place so there would not be any confusion. She left her daughter as trustee. She told me that the will had changed and that my kids are getting 10000 apiece. The lawyer send my daughters letters but there was no copy of the will. My 20yr old daughter called the Lawyer to get a copy of the will they told her that they would have to get permission from the trustee. How do I know she is being on the up and up. The court is in Colorado. The trustee in Florida my 2oyr old Mississippi and me and my 15yr old in NC. What do I do
If the Will was submitted for probate, ask the court for a copy of the Will -- or look for it online. Many county probate court records are now available online.
Note that the Will may not have been submitted for probate if everything was in a revocable living trust (which became irrevocable at death).
