Your verbal agreement to settle, if accepted by the other side, is binding.  This happens routinely.  Formal settlement papers will be prepared and signed.  You may have a 30 day window to withdraw from the settlement.  Ask your lawyer whether the 30 day cooling off period applies in your case.
