Can you sue for defamation or libel for a Facebook post?

More details to this question:
My fiancé is a Lieutenant at a local police department. The PD made a Facebook post. I commented on the post. A woman I don’t even know posted on the PD’s post that I was involved with the Chief of Police directly on the police department’s page. I am not and want to pursue legal actions. Their page has over 10,000 followers and that post had over 3,000 views within just a couple of hrs.

Many lawyers offer a free phone consultation.
