QUESTION

What is my next step?

Asked on Feb 22nd, 2022 on Internet Law - Montana
More details to this question:
I was talking online to someone that their profile said that they were 18 and after a bit of talking, this person started sending me explicit pictures and I DID NOT send anything explicit back, not did I say anything sexual back. A little into us talking she stated that she was actually 17. We still talked but, I kept the conversation as minimal as possible with her, she still sent me explicit pictures. I asked to hold off on sending things like that. She stated she was turning 18 in 8 days from that part of The conversation. Shortly after that I received a phone call from her number which I didn't see originally and then I got a text that stated that it was her father and if I didn't call back immediately he was going to take the phone to a local police station. I called him and he talked for a minute about statutes and laws etc. Then he said that he would be keeping the phone on him and that he would be willing to destroy the phone, if I helped him pay 1200 for half of counseling.

Update Your Profile
This is a common scam on the Internet.  There is no girl, there is no mother or father or detective -- only Internet fraudsters.   Do NOT send them any money.  They are trying to blackmail you, and you are the victim here - not some young girl who does not exist.   Block them and do not communicate with them in the future.   I have never heard of these fraudsters actually posting the pictures because 1) It takes time and makes them no money, and 2) It makes it too easy for them to get caught.
