QUESTION

Can I get fired for cutting my hair?

Asked on Aug 09th, 2013 on Wrongful Termination - Massachusetts
More details to this question:
I work in a beauty salon & I have long hair. I told my boss I have organised to cut my hair to donate it for a wig for a cancer charity & get sponsored to cut it short (not shaved as I said this would b inappropriate for a salon environment but a very short style) she has told me that I MUST cancel immediately as she cannot have me in her salon with short hair as 'it would make her sick to look at me & if she feels like that then clients will think it too & she cannot have her clients feeling that way' can I truly loose my job over a short hair cut? (We have had members of staff with short, pinky red spiky hair with nose & tongue piercings & others with tattoos & they didn't cause upset)

Update Your Profile
From the limited details you provide, It appears that your employment relationship with your employer is an "employment at will". In Massachusetts, employment at will may be terminated by either the employee or the employer (with notice equalling the duration of one pay period) for good reason, bad reason, or no reason at all. Absent any discrimination based on age, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, race etc.. that seem not to apply here, an employer can terminate an employee (with notice) for any reason or no reason.
