lying on your resume

More details to this question:
if you omitted a past employer and worked many years with a perfect record, can you still be fired even though your complany was acquired by another company? this thing has haunted me forever.

i would need to know the specific details to give you a precise answer. what was the reason for the omission ? we are seeing employers use 'venial sins' to terminate employees. the real reason is oftentimes financial. ed dimon, esq. 732-797-1600

Yes, you can still be fired.   Of course, unless you have a contract which provides that you can only be fired for certain specified reasons, or that you will be employed for a definite term, you can always be fired for any reason (except for those prohibited by statute, like race, religion, etc.), even if you hadn't lied on your resume.  If you've had a perfect record for many years, the likelihood is that your employer won't fire you just because you omitted a past employer on your resume.
