Dog bite: Are Doctor bills included in the lawyers compensation amount?

If you are bitten by a dog in NJ, there is a strict liability law.   You do not have to show that the dog has a dangerous propensity or had previously bitten someone else.   Be careful, some home owners policies are now excluding dog bites, so check yours.   Lawsuits for dog bites are brought for pain, suffering, disability and impairment, loss of enjoyment of life, wage loss, and disfigurement.   The medical bills are part of the claim and part of the lawsuit.   The more serious the injury the more the case is worth.   The total settlement will include the medical bills.    These can be very good cases and we would like to meet with you if you do not have a NJ attorney... Pursuant to 39:3-40, and Offense is a fine of 750, imprisonment for up to five days, loss of registration privileges, suspension of license up to six months. Worse if there was an accident and someone was hurt. You should definitely get a lawyer.

You are going to have to call around and search for an attorney in your area that is licensed to practice in your local district court (most attorneys in your area will be licensed in both federal and state courts in your area).  Keep calling attorneys and searching online and in the phone book.  I know that you were probably hoping for an attorney to read this and then contact you and be willing to accept your potential case but that is probably unlikely.  You have not provided enough information here to provide any further advice and you will need to find an attorney that is licensed in your state.  Sorry I could not help you more.  Best of luck. The judgment will say if it is "joint and several" which means all can be required to pay the whole, or not.  There is no rule on a settlement amount.  Punitive damages are rarely awarded.
