Some states do not allow convictions for violent crimes to be expunged. Follow the below link for more information and you should also contact an attorney licensed in Mississippi to inquire further.

I cannot say with certainty as I am not licensed to practice in Mississippi. However, some states do not allow convictions to be expunged where it resulted in a prison term. Regardless, you should contact an attorney licensed to practice in Mississippi to inquire further. If you have been clean since then, you can always argue the equity or fairness of your situation. If Mississippi allows its judges some discretion in granting expungements, than you may have a better chance.

If your only conviction was as a juvenile, it may not count. Get your record sealed at juvenile hall. If you have a felony as an adult, you cannot get you gun rights back.

The timeline for filing for and getting an expungement granted depends on the court in which you have to file. I have seen courts set the expungement hearing with 1 week of filing and I've also waited over 7 months for a court to set the hearing. The cost to file the petition to expunge also depends entirely on the court. But as rule of thumb, the filing fee is between $50 and $150.

That depends on the agency or private company doing the background check. Typically, an expungement will make it as if the offense never occurred. However, as this depends on courts communicating with all applicable agencies, you can guess that such communications are not always perfect and effective. So, unfortunately, it is hard to say exactly what would appear on your background check. If all appropriate agencies are informed, then nothing should appear.

Yes you absolutely can get a conviction expunged without having an attorney. In fact, you can do any legal procedure on behalf of yourself (pro se) without having an attorney. Of course, most legal procedures go smoother with the aid of an attorney.
As far as getting the conviction expunged, you need to look up the municipal or county court where the case was pending. Most have websites now. Either search the website or call the clerk at the court and ask what the filing fee and if they have any standardized forms for a motion to expunge. A lot of courts now have a form you can use. If they do not have a form, then it would be advisable to hire an attorney. Most should do expungements at pretty reasonable rates as they are not complex and do not take much time.
