Good morning. I am sorry for your situation. You should be able to file a complaint in court against your friend and attempt to collect the $30,000.  If you are able to obtain a judgment then you will need to execute on the said judgment.  If your friend has a job then we could potentially attach his wages.  If your friend has other assets then we could possibly go after those assets. Can a collection agency take you to court

If you owe money to creditor, the creditor has the legal right to bring suit against a debtor in default of the contractual agreement.  I suggest you contact a local consumer rights attorney to discuss your situation as there are various state and federal consumer and legal protections in place to protect your rights and a local attorney will be familiar with your state's consumer protection laws.
