I am aware of no laws that prevent your bank from closing your account for any reason (although I am certainly no expert in Illinois law), other than race, gender, nationality, and similar discriminatory motoves.  Therefore, your respective rights in this area depend on your contract.  What does the agreement pursuant to which you opened your account say?  I don't know, but I would be that it is a form created by the bank, and therefore is very bank-friendly, and probably allows the bank to close the account for any reason.... You erred when you purchased the property -- you failed to conduct a survey and thus have taken the property subject to the encroachment. Generally speaking, when you share your ideas without requiring the other party to enter into an agreement not to use them for his own business, you have no expectation that the ideas will remain yours. The exceptions to the "at will" rule are narrow, because the public policy that underlies the rule is to encourage both employers and employees to form relationships as they deem economically appropriate for them; a court will usually not substitute its judgment for that of an employer in determining whom the employer should fire or retain.
