It all depends upon wether the cop was using reasonable force.  You may have a claim if it was clearly not necessary to subdue you.

You'd make it stop by realistically thinking about what you are saying.  Your son is in deep trouble.  This isn't like just a bench warrant for unpaid fines. Your son needs to get a good criminal lawyer and turn himself in.  You need to examine whether you understand that your concern should be with the crimes your son is being charged with, rather than that the the neighbors think badly of you.... You need to get that title.  You should not have given the money before the title was signed over.  Now you have a mess as far as getting plates, being able to sell it in the future, insuring it, etc.  Get your money back!

He needs to show that there have been no physical threats in the recent past.  The amount of time since the domestic is crucial.  May is pretty recent.  The on-again off-again romance is not unusual or significant.  The question is whether she fears for her safety and there have been event to support that.  He needs to be calm and not a hot head in court and look respectable.  I would say he has an up hill battle.  He should stress his love for his child and the need for parenting time.
