Ws it associated with a criminal case? If so, an attorney can file a motion to return seized property. The Judge would sign an order commanding whoever has it to return it. How much is it worth? An attorney would charge you for their time. Unless the item is worth a significant amount of money (over $500 to $1000), it would not probably be worth it to hire an attorney to help you get it returned. If it is NOT associated with a criminal case, small claims court if its under $10,000 in value. Do not expect that you will find ANY attorney to take on a civil case of this nature on a contingency fee (like in a car accident case where the client pays nothing up front, and the attorney gets paid in the end). If you want to hire an attorney to sue for the property back, expect to pay a retainer fee up front, and the attorney to charge against that retainer hundereds of dollars an hour. It isn't clear how this could be a "wrongful death" question, I wasn't aware from your question that anyone had died.  If there was an accident, you should hire a personal injury attorney to file suit on your behalf, if you were injured for the injury, if your vehicle was damaged, for the property damage.  If you are being accused of shooting at someone, you should speak with a criminal defense attorney.  More information is needed to determine why no accurate police report has been created.  If any police report is created but not accurate, you can request that it be amended or corrected. Your question was posted under "Family Law" but it appears to be "Criminal".  Failing to appear can itself be a violation of law, especially if already out on an O/R bond.  A person with a warrant out can't just pay the fine, they could contact the court (best through a lawyer) to explain what happened and ask if the failure to appear may be dropped and if they could pay any underlying fine to clear the matter up. You need to contact the lawyer who represented you. A bench warrant has been issued......if you show up in court tomorrow, the judge could put you in jail with an additional charge stemming from the failure to appear. If you are convicted of theft of a value $750 - $2500 it is a class A misdemeanor, it is punishable by up to a year in jail, and up to a $4000 fine. Hard "maybe." Although it is not a conviction, you plead guilty when you were placed on deferrwd adjudication. In the future you can have this offense sealed, it will remain visible to state agencies, like the TX State Board of Educators, and school districts. You should anticipate you will be required to disclose it, and may have additional scrutiny when applying for teaching positions.
