This appears to reach the level of slander. The key here is that a social worker intervened - this would mean that there is solid evidence of harm/damages being done as a result of the false statement. And yes you could potentially sue this individual to recover damages.

It's not likely that you would qualify for free legal services. However, you could take the person to small claims court to try to get an ordering for them to remove the posts and to stop putting your name and business on social media. Go to your local justice of the peace court and see if they have forms either online or in the office for you to use to bring your claim. You can also sue for monetary damages up to $10,000 in JP court.... Read More

You would probably have a hard time bringing a claim against the Boys and Girls Club because of the state's over-arching policy to protect children. People who work with children have a duty to report suspected child abuse or neglect. If the issue comes up, you can show the CPS records that show there was no abuse or neglect found in the case. However, it is futile to try to sue teachers and other child care workers for defamation when they report as required.... Read More

From what you describe, it looks as though a potential business deal has gone wrong and the other party is publicly retaliating against you for some reason. If what is being posted online is untrue and damaging to your character or your business, that is indeed defamation. Her talking negatively about you and your business is libel. It sounds as though you could use a cease and desist letter drafted by an attorney instructing her to stop the behavior immediately or be subject to a lawsuit. This usually works wonders. ...
