Yes, you can file for SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) and if you have a terminal illness you should do so immediately. You can apply (1) online, (2) in person or by (3) telephone in the comfort of your own home. Based on your description, by telephone sounds the most comfortable for you.
Regardless of the method you choose to apply, be sure to review the SSA's Disability Planner that provides contact information for the three methods to apply described above and important information you will need.
I am uncertain if your case is a "compassionate allowance." Click here for the list of diagnoses for your doctor to review that are compassionate allowances.

It depends on the type of benefits he is receiving: SSI or SSDI. Three possibilities:
Nothing for children from SSA if SSI.
Nothing from SSA for SSDI if his earnings during his work career aren't enough.
Finally, for SSDI benefits SSA will pay children provided there are funds available based upon the disabled father's wages during his working career. If so, that amount ($X) will be divided by the number of children. From your description, if I understand it, each child would receive $X/4

You will have to prove that you meet the criteria for a disabled widow.Your credits (or lack of credits) is not relevant. You are too young to get retirement if you are under 62. You want to apply for DWIB benefits, not survivor benefits. Make sure the application reflects your husband as the wage earner and his SS number.... Read More

You are asking how to get out of something and I don't know what you are "in to."
If an argument can be made, by SSA, that you are working in your wife's business, this is something that requires prompt attention. I would suggest contacting a C.P.A. concerning procedures to request that the 1099 be re-issued, or how the income can or should be reported on a tax return, preferably under your wife's business.
Because a 1099 was issued does not mean that you worked. However, you are smart to ask now, and I would recommend contacting a local attorney in the Social Security Disability area and have them help you report, as soon as possible, what happened. You have a duty to report to SSA if you work, and far better for you to have something in writing explaining the "appearance" that you worked than being in a position to explain what happened when SSA asks....
