Social security

The question is not whether you had custody but whether you were receiving, even mistakenly, Social Security benefits for that child.  If you were, negotiate a payment plan.  If not, show bank records or other evidence that you were not.

Rather than see your income tax return docked, you can enter into a repayment agreement by which you repay as little as $25/month.  It seems odd that you have sent letters and called "hundreds of times" with no response.  If you need help, you might try the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives... The SSA is trying to Prove I can work after 13 years!

Answered 5 years and a month ago by attorney Terry Lynn Garrett   |   1 Answer   |  Legal Topics: Social Security Disability
This is quite ordinary.  They simply must determine your residual functional ability.  If your work was not able to garner enough income to qualify as substantial gainful activity (which appears to be the case), you may be in a "Ticket to Work" program, nothing more.  You can be in such a program repeatedly.... Social Security Disability Insurance is unaffected by assets.  It is like receiving your Social Security retirement benefits early. Supplemental Security Income has a $2,000 liquid asset limit.  To avoid exceeding it (and losing SSI/Mediciad while over that limit), people must transfer the funds to a special needs trust, an ABLE account or "spend down" in the month of receipt.... How do I fire my SSDI attorney?

Answered 5 years and 2 months ago by attorney Terry Lynn Garrett   |   1 Answer   |  Legal Topics: Social Security Disability
Please read the engagement agreement.  Most state that the attorney may be fired at any time for any reason or for no reason.  Your files belong to you.  The attorney's work product belongs to her.  If there is too great a delay, you may want to tell her that you are considering filing a grievance with the state bar.  Also, please note that the Social Security Administration is notorious for losing files.  Your attorney may not be the person who dropped the ball....
