To answer your question about a bench warrant, paying reinstatement fees do not necessarily lift a bench warrant. If I am correct, you are speaking about reinstatement fees to get your license back. A bench warrant is a separate thing from your driver's license. A bench warrant is a criminal warrant that a judge signs because you failed to appear in court. Then your license is suspended because you didn't pay the ticket. So you fixed the problem with the DMV, but the warrant will likely still be active. The only way to have a bench warrant removed is to either get arrested for the warrant or have the judge rescend the warrant. You should check with the DMV or the court that issued the warrant to make sure it was rescended now that you have taken care of the ticket. Otherwise, next time you get pulled over, you might be in for a bad day. ... Read More

this matter is now a criminal matter based upon the 'obstruction of justice'. you need an attorney who will be proactive and 'jump in front' of the problems. the traffic violations are not the problem. however, they must be addressed. we would also have to explain that youare a contributing member of society who made a mistake one day. we will need character letters from 'first responders', a warm and fuzzy CV etc. the legal costs would be $3500. we would like to help you. ed dimon, esq. 732-797-1600 ext 235... Are you talking about the breakdown of the court cost fees? If so, there is little to no chance that you will get out of paying the court fees. Often times I have seen court fees greater than the fine themselves.

Every traffic ticket I have dealt with for a client the court required they be present, in person at the final hearing. Some states allow attorneys to do it from start to finish without the client present, I have not seen that to be the case in Ohio.
As for going 100+ in a 70 and having the belief it was safe to operate at that speed; I would not use that argument with the judge, you will lose.

In certain traffic cases, if you fail to pre-pay the fine and costs and also fail to appear in court, a separate warrant may be issued against you on a new charge of failure to appear. You then will have to stand trial on that charge, as well as the original charge. Call the clerk’s office immediately to check on the status of your case.

It is always helpful to have a lawyer represent you in a situation like this to be sure that your rights are protected. Because it is reckless driving charge, that carries the potential for jail time and should be taken very seriously. Besides the fact that you may need a lawyer in your place since you will be out of the country on duty at the time of the court date, a major advantage to having a lawyer is that the prosecutor will ordinarily not even speak to unrepresented people before the court hearing. So you will not be able to work out a deal yourself ahead of time and will have to go in front of the judge without knowing what is going to happen. And again, I'm not sure how you are planning to do this when you won't even be there.
Another thing to consider is that while it generally is a good idea to take a driver improvement course in order to add positive points to your license, you don't necessarily want to do that before the court date, if you have an otherwise good driving record. This is because if your driving record is perfect, you should already have 5 positive points on your record and the plus 5 that you gain from the class would have nowhere to be applied. So you would be taking the class for nothing. You have to wait until the court docks the points from your record and THEN take the class to build those points back up.
