Without reviewing the documents, as well as any potential bases for the other person's alleged complaint, I can't really answer you with any real information. A person can file a lawsuit for any reason -- the question is whether that person will win.
So, the person may have such a case.

What you describe may well amount to defamation, especially the allegations of criminality. HOWEVER, the idea that you have no idea about your husbands business and his allegedly illegal contracting work, is a likely a stretch. IF he is charged or convicted of such, truth is clearly a defense to such allegations and that can be probelmatic from a civil lawsuit perpective. That stated, at this point you will likely need to do a barrage of C&D (cease and desist) or retraction letters possibly followed up with one or more lawsuits to address the damages. Unfortunately, such cases are not handled on contingent fees, with rare exeption, so you will need to plan on spending several thousand dollars on hiring a lawyer to intervene. ... Read More

Be careful what you ask for as you might get "justice." Just because you were relased RoR and claim innocence does not make it so, nor doe sit make you gulty. If the press is reporting accurately what was alleged by law enforcement there is no claim there. If there was ANY criminal conduct issue or you have a past, then its hard to damage an already ruined repuation simply with notoriety. Equally complaing you were accused to drug dealing fentanyl when it was really crack or oxy pills, is equally not a compelling case. That you haven't had the charges dismissed or a jury acquital pretty much eliminate reputatonal injury claims.... Read More
